"4" a Katrina Survivor!
|
|
Reported
by David Hogan to the Hogan family, and Ricky Dupois from Mamou,
Louisiana |
|
As the situation along the Gulf Coast continues to show more
and more devastation, I think we have to focus on the positive
things and doing the best we can in support of the effected
regions, their families and our jobs. |
|
Over the weekend I had a call from a man who was quite frantic at a
shelter in Mamou, Louisiana. He said they needed Water fast and some
food. |
|
I called Gil Brassard in Baton Rouge to see if we could have
a driver load up and deliver some. Gil ended up loading it on a
non DOT truck and making the trip
himself...all 8 hours of it. |
|
I received a e-mail from the guy who called on 9/4/2005 |
|
Dear David, |
|
Thank You for the
quick response yesterday .... we needed it. |
|
We have had a 3 year old child here in Mamou. No family
members arrived with him. One out of 485 transported to us in a
caravan of busses. |
|
We asked his name-he
said "four". |
| We asked how old he was-he said "four". |
| We asked where he was from- he said "four". |
| So, everyone called him "four". |
|
|
He slept next to the medical center, and our volunteers took
care of him. We finally found his mother-at the astrodome in
Houston. We found his aunt in Birmingham. |
|
This morning, the aunt arrived with Four's mother to pick up
the child. The people of Mamou has never seen such joy in their
lives. Four is gone now, but his spirit remains with us. |
|
Thanks for all your help in this disaster. There are
thousands of "Fours" out there. One thing I want you and Gil
to know is that the last thing Four had in his hand was one of
those bottles of water. |
|
Sincerely, |
|
Ricky Dupois |
