Hogan Hardwoods International imports Afrormosia directly from sawmills in Ghana,

 Cameroun, and Zaire. Afrormosia is often termed African Teak. After the wood has been surfaced or moulded for some time, it resembles Teak ... changing from a yellow color to a warm brown with exposure to air and light. Afrormosia is a very durable wood. Carbide-tipped cutting tooling are recommended.

Alder, Red

Alnus rubra

Often termed West Coast Cherry, Alder has its own unique grading standards and major Alder producers do not us NHLA Grading Rules.  At Hogan Hardwoods & Moulding, we stock only the Alder manufacturer's TOP GRADE OF SUPERIOR."  Superior is the highest grade produced and the clear lumber yield is much better than the Alder manufacturer's grade of Selects and Better.

Hogan Hardwoods International purchases Aniegre directly from sawmills in Africa, the heartwood color is cream to tan with a pinkish tinge. Carbide-tipped cutting tooling are recommended to Aniegre's high silica content.

Hogan Hardwood & Moulding purchases White Ash from manufacturer's that specialize in the production of uniform white color. Heartwood is limited to produce lumber that is 80% or more white-one-face. Ash lumber is noted for its stability and is less subject to twist, cup and dimensional change than most of our native hardwoods.

Guitar Body Sock weight is 2.8lbs or less per board feet.

Hogan Hardwoods International purchases Avodire directly from sawmills in Africa. Avodire's (pronounced av-o-diray) heartwood darkens with exposure to a golden yellow. The grain is chiefly straight but is often wavy or irregularly interlocked, producing a very attractive mottled figure on quartered surfaces and is often termed African Satinwood.

Bloodwood

New Product

Bloodwood is imported from Brazil by Hogan Hardwood International. The wood is bright red to a yellowish-red in color and has a satiny luster. This species is vary hard and heavy but not difficult to work. It is used for violin bows, fine furniture and wood turnings.
