Phoebe palustris |
|
Almost 100% of the dense
long-leaf Yellow Pine used today is re-manufactured from
timbers removed during demolition of old wood structures
(originally constructed before 1900). Generally, the old
timbers are sawn into lumber and will show evidence of
the years....especially nail holes. |
|
At Hogan Hardwoods &
Moulding we offer the same dense Pine without nail holes
and of the same age. These "Sinkers" are recovered by
the same means as our "Sinker" Cypress (see page
Sinker
Cypress &
Sinker Cypress and Sinker Pine). "Sinker" Pine is 100% resinous heartwood. |
|
Note: This lumber is in
very limited supply and is extremely rare. |

Hogan Hardwoods International imports Purpleheart directly
from sawmills in Brazil
and Guyana. Purpleheart is found throughout Central and South America and
is also know as Amaranth,
and Violet Wood. Purpleheart is an excellent exterior wood
with other uses being for cabinets, furniture, turnings and
flooring. When fresh cut, the wood is a purple color which darkens
in time to a rich brown through oxidation. Purpleheart is imported
directly from sawmills in Brazil, Guyana by Hogan Hardwoods
International. |

| Lirodendron tulipifera |
|
By its name, we would be
lead to believe Yellow Poplar would belong in the true
Poplar scientific family. True Poplars (Genuius
Populus) include Aspen, Carolina Poplar and
Cottonwood, but not Yellow Poplar. |
|
Sap
Gum is an economical substitute for Yellow Poplar.

|
Yellow poplar is a member
of the Magnolia family and most botanists prefer to call
Yellow Poplar the Tulip Tree or Tulip Poplar. |
|
Today, Yellow Poplar is
one of the most important trees in the lumber industry.
The wood is free from resin, kiln dries easily, glues
easily and is fairly stable. |
