Hogan Hardwoods &
Moulding melamine decorative panels consist of a |
|
melamine-impregnated
decorative paper, thermally fused to a substrate such
|
|
as industrial-grade
particleboard core (PBC) or medium-density fiberboard (MDF). |
|
Thermal fusion takes
place under heat and pressure and permanently bonds the
impregnated paper to the substrate. This process
results in melamine panels with extraordinary strength,
durability and are resistant to impact, scuffs, stains,
light and heat. |

Thermally fused melamine
decorative panels can be used for applications where high
pressure laminates would be specified, including vertical
and horizontal surfaces. Exception: Melamine
should not be used in high-wear
surfaces...i.e., kitchen counter tops, check-out counters or
applications where temperatures exceeds 250° F. |
|
|
|
Cold rolled melamine is
not thermally fused but is adhered with a glue line
and is excellent for drawer bottoms and cabinet backs.
Also, cold rolled melamine panels make a great cabinet
interior when price is a real consideration. |

| Handling and
Storing Melamine Decorative Panels |
|
Good material handling and
storage practices will ensure ease of fabrication and the best
performance from your panels. Make sure decorative
melamine panels are stored off the floor on a sufficient
number of evenly spaced stringer/stickers of equal
thickness to ensure: |

Protect unfinished edges from
contact with water to prevent swelling of the substrate.
The optimum conditions for storage are temperatures between
60° and 90°F with a relative humidity of 40-60%. |
|
|
Preconditioning |
|
Prior to fabrication, allow thermally fused melamine panels
to acclimate for a minimum of 48-72 hours in conditions
similar to those you will be working in. A temperature
of approximately 70°F with a relative humidity of 40-60% is
optimum. |
|
|
HANDLING: Take care when moving panels so they do not
strike against anything which would damage the surface. |
|
Never slide the panel on its
decorative surface. |

National Parks vs.
National Forest? National parks (80 million acres) are
managed by the Park Service and allow no hunting and
no timber harvesting. National Forests, on the other
hand, are administered by the Forest Service and were
established "to furnish a continuous supply of timber
for the use and necessities of citizens of the United
States." (Organic Act of June4, 1897). |
