Makore

Tieghemella heckelii

Makore is purchased directly from sawmills in Ghana, Ivory Cost and Cameroun by Hogan Hardwoods International. Makore is often termed African Cherry, and the heartwood is rated as very durable.

The color is a pink-red to blood red, sometimes with streaks of darker color. The wood is dense and hard, and the silica in the wood causes blunting of cutting tools. Carbide-tipped cutting tools are essential.
